Erythritol is a virtually calorie-free, naturally occurring and tooth friendly sugar substitute, which is gaining in popularity due to the number of positive attributes. Erythritol provides around 70-80 % of the sweetness of standard household sugar, without any of its negative aspects. It has a glycemic index of 0, does not let the blood sugar rise and does not need to be taken into account in the carbohydrate balance. In contrast to artificial sweeteners such as aspartame or saccharin, which are produced synthetically, erythritol is not a foreign substance to the organism.
